Which license do I need?

Most agency sales jobs start with one of these:

• Property and Casualty (P&C): auto, home, renters and business insurance. Most agency sales roles need this one.
• Personal Lines: a narrower license in some states, covering auto and home for individuals and families.
• Life and Health: life insurance, health and related products.

Licenses are issued by each state, and the steps differ by state. Your state’s department of insurance lists the exact requirements.

The usual steps

• Complete any pre-licensing education your state requires.
• Schedule and pass the state licensing exam.
• Apply for the license with your state, which often includes a background check and fingerprints.

Get licensed before or after you are hired?

Both happen. Some agencies hire you and help you get licensed. Others require the license first. When you apply, tell us where you are in the process and we match you with agencies that fit.

We offer voice-based exam prep for select states. You study one topic at a time, ask questions out loud, and take practice quizzes until you are ready.

Exam prep does not replace a state-required pre-licensing course, and it does not guarantee a pass.
